About Erasing: | ||||||||
| A degausser is a device that can generate a magnetic field for erasing
magnetic storage media. Data is stored in magnetic media, such as hard drives, floppy disks and magnetic tape.
This is achieved by very small areas on the data surface called magnetic domains which change their magnetic
alignment to be in the direction of an applied magnetic field. Degaussing, commonly called erasure, leaves the
domains in random patterns with no preference to orientation, thereby rendering previous data unrecoverable.
There are some domains whose magnetic alignment is not randomized after degaussing and the information that
these domains represent is commonly called magnetic remanence. Proper degaussing will ensure that there is
insufficient magnetic remanence to reconstruct the data.
As part of our comprehensive data sanitization process, Vet-Tec provides custom designed state-of-the-art, truck mounted degaussing to commercial and government customers throughout United States. The capability to provide professional on-site degaussing of hard drives, floppy disks, tapes, and other magnetic media ensures our customers immediate certification of their data destruction. Additionally, each Vet-Tec vehicle is equipped with shredders capable of physically destroying both magnetic media (hard drives, floppy disks, tapes, etc.) and optical media (CDs, DVDs) for the ultimate form of data destruction. To assure your information protection and data security, the Vet-Tec data sanitization process, uses only NSA EPL equipment. Each device meets the strict requirements of NSA/CSS Specification 02-02, High Security Disintegrators and NSA/CSS 04-02, and Optical Media Destruction Devices (includes HIPAA compliance). We follow ISO-17799:2005 guidelines and the principles. We also meet DOD 5220.22-M data eradication requirements.
